Isabel Capeloa Gil (Mira, 22 de Julho de 1965) é a sexta reitora da Universidade Católica Portuguesa e a primeira mulher presidente da Federação Internacional das Universidades Católicas. Professora catedrática de Estudos de Cultura, é doutorada em Estudos Alemães pela UCP e estudou em Lisboa, Munique e Chicago. Anteriormente, foi vice-reitora para a Investigação e Internacionalização (2012-2016) e Decana da Escola de Ciências Humanas (2005-2012) da UCP. Tendo crescido em Macau, desenvolveu um grande interesse pela diversidade e pelo conflito, centrando a sua investigação na intersecção da literatura, das artes e de outras disciplinas. Uma forte defensora da educação internacional, tem fomentado redes de investigação globais, enfatizando o papel das artes e humanidades na promoção de uma educação global sustentável e robusta. Foi professora visitante em universidades de renome como a LMU de Munique, Ca’Foscari de Veneza e Stanford, e é membro fundador do Centro de Investigação em Comunicação e Cultura. Fundou a Aliança Estratégica das Universidades Católicas de Investigação (SACRU) em 2017. Enquanto presidente da Federação Internacional das Universidades Católicas, é responsável pelo plano estratégico «Uma Voz Global para Um Futuro Comum» e é a fundadora do grupo de trabalho para a liderança feminina das Universidades Católicas. É membro da direção da Associação Europeia de Mulheres Reitoras (EWORA) e membro da Academia Europeia. É também membro do Conselho Consultivo da Edmond de Rothschild e membro do Conselho de Administração da AmCham (Portugal). É membro do Conselho Europeu de Relações Exteriores desde 2017 e foi nomeada pelo Papa Francisco como consultora do Dicastério para a Educação e Cultura da Santa Sé em 2022. Ocupou cargos de direção e consultoria nos seguintes organismos: Danish Research Council, Comissão Fulbright, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, AVEPRO (Agência de Acreditação do Vaticano), FAPESP (Brasil) e Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Alemanha). Recebeu vários prémios e distinções, incluindo uma Fulbright Fellowship e Bolsas de Estudo DAAD e Gulbenkian, o Golden Master da Alta Direção da Fundação Carlos III (Espanha), o título de Magnífica Reitora Ibero-Americana. É doutorada honoris causa pelo Boston College (2019), pelo Institut Catholique de Paris (2021) e pela Australian Catholic University (2023). Em 2024, foi incluída na lista 50 over 50 da Forbes das mulheres mais influentes do mundo. É autora de mais de 140 artigos científicos publicados em inglês, português, alemão, espanhol e francês. Isabel Capeloa Gil is the 6th Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the first woman President of the International Federation of Catholic Universities. A Full Professor of Culture Studies, she holds a PhD in German Studies from UCP and studied in Lisbon, Munich, and Chicago. Previously, she served as Vice-Rector for Research and Internationalization (2012–2016) and Dean of the School of Human Sciences (2005–2012) at UCP. Having grown up in Macao, she developed a keen interest in diversity and conflict, focusing her research on the intersection of literature, the arts, and other disciplines. A strong advocate for international education, she has fostered global research networks, emphasizing the role of the arts and humanities in promoting sustainable and robust global education. Prof. Gil has held visiting professorships at renowned universities such as LMU Munich, Ca’Foscari Venice, and Stanford, and is a founding member of the Research Centre for Communication and Culture. Isabel Capeloa Gil founded the Strategic Alliance of Catholic Research Universities (SACRU) in 2017. As President of the International Federation of Catholic Universities she is responsible for the strategic plan “A Global Voice for a Common Future” and is the founder of the task force for women's leadership of Catholic Universities. She is a board member of the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA), and a member of the European Academy. Isabel Gil is also a member of the Advisory Board of Edmond de Rothschild and a member of the Board of Directors of AmCham (Portugal). She has been a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations since 2017 and was appointed by Pope Francis as a consultant to the Holy See’s Dicastery for Education and Culture in 2022. She has held management and advisory positions in the following bodies: Danish Research Council, Fulbright Commission, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, AVEPRO (Vatican Accreditation Agency), FAPESP (Brazil) and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Germany). She has received several awards and distinctions, including a Fulbright Fellowship and DAAD and Gulbenkian Scholarships, the Golden Master of the High Directorate of the Carlos III Foundation (Spain), the title of Magnificent Ibero-American Rector. She holds honorary doctorates from Boston College (2019), Institut Catholique de Paris (2021), Australian Catholic University (2023). In 2024 she was included in Forbes’ 50 over 50 List of the most influent women of the world. She is the author of more than 140 scientific papers published in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish and French.
